ADDITIONAL INFO:      This is a Gerber PK-II circa 1973 - 1983. The PK-2 is a single blade liner lock knife.

The PK series from Gerber were made simultaneously with the FS (Folding Sportsman) series. The sizes and patterns are different between the two series. The PK series, also known as The President's Collection, had a stainless steel frame and bolsters as opposed to the brass which was used in the FS series.

There were three different knives in the PK series the PK-1, PK-2, PK-2D and PK-3.

PK-1 Had a blade at each end. It is the only knife in the PK series that did not have a locking blade.

PK-2 Has a single locking blade the back of which is straight. There is no drop in the tip of the blade.

PK-2D This is the drop point version of the PK-2.

PK-3 Called the Handyman / Electrician had a regular blade and a liner lock screwdriver blade for the electrician. There was a second model of the PK-3 that did not make production, it was called the Handyman. It was the mirror image of the Handyman / Electrician in that the knife blade locked and the screwdriver blade did not. So if you happen to find a Gerber PK-3 that has a locking knife blade and a non-locking screwdriver blade, you have something pretty rare. Phil Rodenberg the fellow who wrote the book on Gerber knives; "A Chronology of Gerber Legendary Blades 1939-1986," was only able to find one prototype of the Handyman. The Handyman / Electrician however was made from 1973 to 1981.

If you find a set of the President's Collection in a beautiful walnut presentation case, they were made from about 1979 to 1983. The knife came in plain wooden handle and engraved and in stag handle plane in stag handle engraved were also offered. I have no idea what those would be pricewise, assuming they were in mint condition. No doubt more than I spend on lunch every day!

The historical information I have presented here will on the PK and the FS series was been taken from Phil Rodenberg's book; "A Chronology of Gerber Legendary Blades 1939-1986."
