ADDITIONAL INFO:   I am not too familiar with the Challenge Cutlery Corp. knives. There are several different dates for Challenge Cutlery depending on the tang stamp and the city, according to the listings in Goin’s Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings. The ones with the Bridgeport stamps are dated 1905 to 1928, per Goins. I have no history to this knife other than that I found it in the pawnshop in a small town near Pendleton Oregon, home of the famous Pendleton Roundup. What surprised me was the fact that the blade was in such great condition. Most of the time when I find Texas toothpicks or fish knife patterns with this type of blade they are usually broken. This one is worn down perhaps a quarter inch from the tip, which to me seems amazing considering the knife is at least 91 years old. I found no cracks in the bone aside from the cut, scratch or crack shown in the last picture. There is an arrow pointing to the crack, but the crack is so small it is difficult to get a good picture of it. This appears to be right on the surface and I think it may be the result of a jigging machine or some other cutting implement. The crack does not appear to travel, at least not to my eyes and using a 15 power lighted magnifier. This is a beautiful old knife and deserves a good home.
