ADDITIONAL INFO:                        I have always liked the steel in the old Western knives. They have some of the best carbon steel I have ever used in a knife. When I got this knife it had rather plain-jane wood handles on it and I wanted to improve the looks and do something a little different than just stag handles. I used some Culpepper’s CSB (carved stag bone) but a different color than I normally use. This is a fairly new color in their line of colors so I was pleasantly suprised with the way it came out. Unfortunately the bone was not thick enough to go all the way from the tang to the top of the pommel so I used alternating layers of black and red spacer material. This made a nice complement to the red bone and to the black and aluminum spacers at either end. I used red mosaic pins with a center star in the handle. Sally Martin, the wife of my friend Gene Martin of Provision Forge, made the mosaic pins. Gene and Sally are fellow members of the Oregon Knife Collectors Association and both are former Marines! I like the unique designs that Sally uses in the pins she creates.

The sheath is a handmade, hand-sewn copy of an old Western sheath. I used an old deteriorated Western sheath as the pattern for this sheath. Unfortunately I don’t have the tooling to put the decorations on the sheath, but aside from that is a copy of a Western sheath. I also covered the back of the snap on the strap with a piece of leather so that it does not scratch the bone handle.

I believe in leaving some of the scars on the blade, because this old soldier earned them!
