ADDITIONAL INFO:   When I started work on this knife the leather handle was rotten and brittle with age and from moisture. I removed what was left of the leather handle, cleaned the rust from inside the bifurcate tang and glued three layers of spacer material together, then glued the spacers on either side of the tang running lengthwise of the handle. I finished completing the handle by adding mossy Oak CSB (curve stag bone) over the spacer material to complete the handle. I thought the resulting handle was quite attractive. I did not polish every nick and ding out of the pommel and guard because a pristine handle would not look right on the blade that is obviously seen plenty of use. I like to allow an older knife to retain some of its history, its dings and nicks, as long as it does not compromise the structural integrity of the knife or the safety of the user.

The sheath that came with this knife was a tube type sheath, according to what Western called it in their catalog. The original sheath was in pretty rough condition so I used it for a pattern and made new sheath. I followed the pattern of the old sheath and hand stitched and riveted the new sheath and formed it to fit this knife. I left the tag end of the restraining strap a little long so someone can get the knife out with their gloves on. I also covered the back of the snap on the restraining strap with leather so the bare-metal would not old rub against the bone handle scratching it. This can be seen in the second picture. This would be an excellent knife for every day carry, for fishing, camping and of course for hunting. The excellent quality of the Western carbon steel is legendary!
