ADDITIONAL INFO:      This is a WWII Engineer’s knife used by both the Navy and the U.S. Army. The Navy spec number was 41-J-4 and the army spec number was 17-170. The military name is “Knife, Pocket, Engineer, Four Blade, With Clevis.” Camillus made 1.7 million of these for the U.S, Navy and 3.2 million for the U.S. Army. -Information from Pocket Knives of the United States Military, by Michael Silvey.

This knife has the newer style safety can opener made after 1944 when all the can openers were standardized with the “safety can opener.”

Since this knife is only stamped MADE IN U.S.A. it is uncertain who made it, probably Ulster or Pal. This knife is very well made with wide brass liners. Given the use of brass and the fact that it has the safety can opener indicates to me it was probably made after World War II.
