This *RARE* TMD Ted M. Dowell Custom-Made Integral Hunting Axe/Hatchet w/Micarta Handle Scales is in excellent overall preowned condition! Shows only very minor age/handling/storage related wear, surface scratches tarnish, debris, etc. consistent with prior display. Matching custom leather sheath.

I was able correspond via email with Jeff Dowell, Ted's son, to confirm the authenticity of this hunting axe and he also informed me that it was made between 1975 and 1977. I have email confirmation, if needed.

Recently acquired at a local estate sale of an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Handle: Micarta set on an integral tang

Description: This exceptional hatchet was made by TM Dowell around 1985. It has been meticulously cared for and is near mint! The last hatchet that Dowell made was completed in 1993.

Towell is one of the masters of the integral knife -- where the blade, tang and guard are all formed from one solid piece of steel. Both the blade and haft have been meticulously mirror polished. The haft is distal tapered, resulting in an optimal balance. D2, which is on the border of stainless and carbon steels, assures a keen, long lasting edge. Micarta scales are set with three rivets, the center bearing Dowell's TMD mark. Highly collectible and rarely available.

It appears to have never been used or sharpened.
