The one and only Winchester Repeating Arms Company teamed up with Simmons Hardware to open up a line of their own hardware stores, which operated from about 1918 to 1930. These stores offered a whole catalog of tools, hardware and other goods. You could swing by the Winchester store to pick up a hammer, a flashlight, or even a pair of roller skates! Despite producing high quality products for over a decade, the endeavor wasn't as successful as they had hoped. And although the Winchester brand survived, the Great Depression forced them to abandon the Winchester Store operation.

This large slicer style kitchen knife was a "Special" line made for sale at their hardware stores. It features a 7.75" stainless steel blade, which was "cutting edge" technology for the industry during this time, which seems to end in a rat tail tang. The knife length measures approx 12.25" overall. The wooden handles have look as if the had originally been black, and painted over with orange, and has various levels of wear throughout. No major chips or cracks. Although the knife shows obvious signs of use, the blade appears to only have only been lightly used. It has a very light weight and I wish I had a digital scale for an accurate reading.
