Here is a beautiful example of the kitchen cutlery to come out of Simmons Hardware of St. Louis in the early 1900's.

The stamp on this blade was first used around 1900 until Simmons was bought out by Shapleigh in 1940. I have found examples of this knife in catalogs from the 1920s. This model appears to be the largest carving style knife they produced, with the blade measuring in at just over 9 inches. 

The handle has one of the nicest pieces of genuine gnarly stag that I have ever held. It is nice and thick, with plenty of "popcorn" texture. It has a nice curve which compliments the hand perfectly. The base of the stag flares out at the hilt, adding to the comfortable grip. It makes me want to go buy a Christmas ham just so I can put her to use.

The blade appears to only have some light use, with some light pitting starting to form towards the tip of the blade. It has an ornate collar which may have been an aftermarket addition?
