Miller Bros. Cutlery Meriden CT. 1870 Bone Handle Ink Eraser 5 5/8 Parchment Vellum

Often confused with a 'fleam', which was used for blood letting, this is an ink eraser, used to remove dried ink from parchment hide 'paper' with a sharp blade. Miller Bros Cutlery in meriden CT, began business in 1870 and closed in the 1930's. This tool dates to not much later than the 1880's or 90's. Smooth bone handle, tarnished and cleaned rust. Stamped on the tang.
