This is a ***MINT CONDITION*** Vintage COLONIAL PROV. U.S.A. 1-Blade Crossbar/Fishtail/Bowtie Folding Pocket Knife with a Single Unused and Unsharpened Saber Clip Point Blade with a Common Nail Pull and with its Original Factory Mirror Polish and its Original Factory Edge, a Nice Set of Thick Imitation Jigged Bone Scales in Perfect Condition, Brightly Polished Squared Nickel Silver Bolsters with a Crossbar, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Fishtail End Caps, Steel Blade Liners, a Single Brightly Polished Steel Back Spring with No Cracks or Breaks, Made by the Colonial Knife Company Located in Providence, Rhode Island Some Time Between 1938 and Much Later.

First, no, this is NOT a clamshell knife plus it seems so much better built than the average Colonial knife.  It’s 4” long and the blade is 3 5/16” long. The knife has an unused and unsharpened carbon steel saber clip point blade. It still has it original factory mirror polish and it’s original factory edge and looks just as it did when it first came out of the factory.  Stamped on the front tang is COLONIAL (over) PROV. U.S.A.  There’s no good way to accurately date a Colonial Knife other than its either pre-1938 or post-1938 and this one is likely post. Colonial is still in business today with just a very few employees making mainly tactical type knives. But I’m pretty confident this knife was probably made pre-1960’s or even earlier.  The blade still has a good hard snap at open and close and still has a good strong half-stop. These thick slabs of brown imitation jigged bone give the knife a feel of both heftiness and durability. The scales are hefty and in perfect condition with no breaks, cracks or missing chips. There are no visible handle pins. The knife has a nice set of brightly polished nickel silver single flute pinched bolsters with a stationary hand guard built onto the bolsters. It also has a brightly polished set of nickel silver fishtail shaped end caps. All are free of any dents, dings or visible scratches. The blade liners are made of steel as is the single back spring. The spring is free of any cracks or breaks and it continues an excellent job in performing its designed functions. This old Colonial Bowtie, Fishtail or Crossbar Knife is very well made and in very good shape.  It is 4” long with the blade closed and 7 1/4” long with the blade fully extended. I have a number of these old Colonial fishtails and I’ve a new respect for the quality of knife they are. This is really a nice knife and if you don’t have a Colonial Fishtail yet in your fishtail collection then this one will be the best one you have for a while. This is absolutely the highest quality Colonial fishtail knife I’ve ever had.  Additional photos or information on request.
