This is a **RARE** **SALESMAN’S SAMPLE** pocket knife to be this old and to still be in a Near Mint condition. This is a Manhattan Cutlery Co 2-Blade Swell Center Swayback Pen Folding Pocket Knife.  It was imported by Boker Cutlery Co from John Shield & Co of Sheffield, England and was made between c.1868-1906.  It’s still in its unused and unsharpened condition after being made between 116-154 years ago. It’s also a salesman’s sample which makes it even more rare. The knife has an unused and unsharpened carbon steel spear point main blade with a long nail pull. It has only a few specks on either face while retaining most of its original factory mirror polish and its factory edge. Still very visible on the rear face on the tang end of the blade is the salesman’s code of 1399 written in black ink. Stamped on the front tang is MANHATTAN (over) CUTLERY CO (over) GERMANY.  Stamped on the rear tang appears to be a Native American holding a long axe or gun. On the other end of the frame is an unused and unsharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a long nail pull. The front face has some light staining near the blade tip and the rear face just has a few very scattered specks. It also retains most of it’s original factory mirror polish and it’s or factory edge. Stamped on the front tang is MANHATTAN (over) CUTLERY CO (over) GERMANY.  Stamped on the rear tang appears to be a Native American holding a long axe or gun. Both blades still have excellent hard open and close snap and hard distinct half-stops. The knife has a set of excellent plus genuine Mother-of-Pearl Scales. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips.  There is a brightly polished German Silver crest shaped shield inlaid flush in the front scale. There are three German Silver handle pins in each scale. The bolsters are rounded and brightly polished German Silver with no dents or dings. The liners are brightly polished brass. The knife has a single steel back spring and is free of any cracks or breaks and it continues to perform the functions it was designed to perform. The Knife was imported by Boker Cutlery of Solingen, Germany from John Shield & Co of Sheffield, England and stamped as the Manhattan Cutlery Co which was a trademark owned and used by Boker Cutlery.  This beautiful vintage Manhattan Cutlery Co 2-blade Swell Center Swayback Pen Folding Pocket Knife is 2 5/8” in length and Made Between c.1868-1906.
