This is a Vintage or Antique Miller Bros Cutlery Co. 3-blade Splitback Congress Whittler folding pocket knife. This knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel sheepfoot main blade with a common nail pull. Both blade faces are clean to the point I can’t even see any scratches from use so it may be unused. Stamped on the front tang is MILLER (over BROS. On the other end of the frame is a barely used and unsharpened carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. The front face has three clusters of staining with one next to the tang, another just above the nail pull and the very small one near the blade tip. The rear face has one cluster of staining about 1/4” below the tip. Stamped on the front tang is MILLER (over) BROS. The third blade is a carbon steel dual-sided fingernail file, or manicure, blade. It has a standard vertical ridge and valley type of file on both faces. The top of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. Stamped on the rear tang is MILLER (over) BROS. The sheepfoot and pen blades have a good to excellent snap on open and close has a hard half-stop. The file blade is a little loose and is quiet on open and must be pushed to close. The scales are an excellent plus set of translucent genuine Mother-of-Pearl. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits or missing chips. There are three (3) nickel silver handle pins in each scale. It has brightly polished nickel silver elongated bolsters and brightly polished brass liners. The two steel back springs are in a split back spring configuration which allows the thicker sheepfoot main blade to ride evenly on both springs while the pen and file blades each ride on their own back spring. The back springs are in great condition with no cracks or breaks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This is a nice very lightly used Miller Bros 3-blade Congress Splitback Whittler Pocket Knife. The knife was made in the Miller Bros factory located in Meriden, Connecticut between c.1872 and 1926. The knife is 2 5/8” in length. Additional photos or information on request.
