This stamp was one of the earliest stampings used by Case and dates the knife between c.1905-1914. I was unable to determine the pattern number although it’s a 2-Blade Sleeveboard Shadow Lobster Pen Knife.  I’m thinking it’s an 82090. This old Case pen knife has a used and sharpened carbon steel long spear point main blade with a common nail pull that opens from the top of the frame. Both faces have scratches from use and sharpening but are otherwise pretty clean. There are a couple of tiny nicks on the cutting edge but I’ll hone those out before shipping since the blade has already been sharpened.  Stamped on the front tang is W.R. CASE (over) & SONS (over) BRADFORD, PA.  The knife has a carbon steel nail file, or manicure, secondary blade with a long nail pull that opens from the bottom of the frame. It has a standard vertical ridge and valley type nail file on the surface that folds down face first into the frame. The other three sides are all smooth. The end portion of the blade is the fingernail cleaner.  The spear blade is tight in the frame and moves very well but it is still quiet on open and just a slight “thump” on close. The file blade is a decent “thump” on open and a good snap on close. The scales are a very nice set of fiery genuine Mother-of-Pearl with no cracks, splits or missing chips though there is a small narrow dent of the front scale. They definitely show the pinks, blues, greens and purples in a great slice of pearl when turned in the light. There are one (1) single nickel silver handle pin on the large end of each scale and one (1) nickel silver rivet on the narrow end that held on the bail tgat is unfortunately now missing. It has brightly polished brass liners. The back springs are internal and are free of any cracks or breaks and continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This 100+ year old early vintage and antique W.R. Case & Sons 2-Blade Sleeveboard Shadow Lobster Pen Folding Pocket Knife was made at the Case factory located in Bradford, Pennsylvania between c.1905-1914 and is 2 1/4” in length.
