This is a Vintage REMINGTON UMC MADE IN U.M.C. Model No. R6653 3-Blade Splitback Whittler Folding Pocket Knife with a Carbon Steel Spear Point Main Blade with a Long Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Pen Secondary Blade with a Common Nail Pull, a Carbon Steel Dual-Sided Fingernail File, or Manicure, Tertiary Blade, a n Excellent Plus Set of Medium to Dark Brown Genuine Jigged Bovine Bone Scales in Perfect Condition with No Cracks, Splits, Missing Chips or Slivers, a Shallow Easy Open on the Top of Both the Front and Rear Scales for Easier Access to the Fingernail File and Pen Blade Nail Pulls, a Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Crest Shaped Shield Inlaid on the Front Scale, Three (3) Nickel Silver Handle Pins in Each Scale, Brightly Polished Nickel Silver Tip Bolsters, Polished Brass Liners, Two (2) Steel Back Springs in a Split Back Spring  Configuration with No Breaks or Cracks, 3 1/8” in Length, Made by The Remington Arms Company Between c.1924-1933. 
 

This is a really nice vintage REMINGTON UMC MADE IN U.S.A. Model No. 6653 3-Blade Splitback Whittler Folding Pocket Knife. It has a carbon steel spear point main blade with a long nail pull. The front face some hard to see scratches from use and some scattered light stains. The rear face has more visible scratches from use and only a handful of very light stains or micro-pits. Stamped on the front tang is the oval logo with REMINGTON (over) UMC in block letters within the circle and MADE IN U.S.A stamped along the outside of the circle. This dates the knife as being made between c.1924-1933. Stamped on the rear tang is the Model No. of R6653.  On the other end of the frame is a carbon steel pen secondary blade with a common nail pull. This blade is pretty much clean other than some scratches from use. It too has quite a bit of light pitting on both faces. Stamped on the rear tang is the Remington circle logo with REMINGTON (over) UMC in block letters within the circle and MADE IN U.S.A stamped along the outside of the circle. Next to the pen blade is a carbon steel leather dual-sided fingernail file, or manicure, tertiary blade. It has a standard vertical ridge and valley type file on both faces and the top portion of the blade is the fingernail cleaner. There is some staining and light pitting on that portion of the blade. just a little very light micro-pitting. The two minor blades gave good to excellent snap on open and close while the spear blade has excellent hard snap on both open and close. The knife has an excellent plus set of medium to dark brown jigged bovine bone (Remington says stag) scales. They’re in perfect condition with no cracks, splits, missing chips or slivers. There is a shallow easy open on the top of each scales for easier access to the nail pulls on the pen and file blades. There are three nickel handle pins in each scale. There is a nice polished crest shaped shield on the front scale. The knife has brightly polished nickel silver tip bolsters. It has brightly polished brass liners. The knife has two steel back springs and both are free of any breaks or cracks and both continue to perform the functions they were designed to perform. This great old vintage Remington UMC Splitback Whittler Folding Pocket Knife is 3 1/8” in length and made between c.1924-1933. Additional information or photos upon request.
