ADDITIONAL INFO:     ADDITIONAL INFO:     The Kershaw Folding Field II was introduced in the 1980s. I do not have a full complement of catalogs from that time. They didn’t always issue a bound catalog like they have done in the last 20 years or more, but in the early days they sent the dealers product information sheets which had nice pictures of the new knife pattern and technical information. I don’t have any information on this knife until a 1994 catalog which states that it was made from AUS-8A steel. Just a few years later they switched to AUS-6 steel for most of their folding knives, but I don’t believe they ever changed the steel in the Folding Field (model #1050) and the Folding Field II. The larger Folding Field knife with the black phenolic handle and finger grooves was one of our most popular folding knives in our cutlery store in the 1980s. The Folding Field II was not quite as popular, and was discontinued considerably before the Folding Field (model #1050), which was still being offered in the catalogs until 2009, it was not in the 2010 catalog. I do not have the Folding Field II listed in any of the catalogs I have passed 1985. I believe the knife was still available until about 1987, but that’s working from old memories at the cutlery store. Whether they were being manufactured at that point or just selling the existing inventory, I do not know. The Folding Field II was available in three different handles that I’m aware of. The most common was the sandalwood handle, model #1040W. It was also available in white Thailand water buffalo bone, though most of those I have seen were scrimshawed. Gary Harbor was a very well-known scrimshander from Vermont who did a lot of wildlife scenes on the model #1040s with white bone handles. This knife with the colored Thailand water buffalo bone is much prettier in my mind than the sandalwood handle version, and it was higher priced of course.
