Very early Nicholson ciphered 2 blade 4 1/8" jack
Made between aprox 1845-1850, the razor point main blade is tang stamped John Nicholson Celebrated Cutlery. Stamped out on the blade is OF THE BEST QUALITY in a riband, IMPERIAL CHINESE, and a Sheffield cutler's idea of Chinese characters. There is an unreadable tang stamp on the pen blade. The blades still have good snap, but the pin has been replaced, as is common on the early knives with strong backsprings. The well worn stag scales show some age related losses and pin cracks, and the blades show losses and sharpening marks in keeping with 175 years of use. See Knife Magazine February 2018 for great artice about these ciphered knives and their short history. Please see photos for condition.
