Great Eastern Northfield Cutlery #23 Pioneer made in 2007 Condition is mint in original tube and waxed paper and snaps like an allligator. In 2007 Great Eastern did not use the 6 digit pattern numbering system that they use now so the actual pattern number for this knife is just a #23. Handle is beautiful smooth Buffalo Horn. Steel is 1095 Carbon. OAL Closed 4 1/2". Etching on the nail nick side of the blade reads" NORTHFIELD UN-X-LD TRADE MARK". The reverse side of the blade reads, "MODEL 23 PIONEER 1 OF 250". Tang reads "NORTHFIELD UN-X-LD MADE IN USA" on the nail nick side and "GREAT EASTERN CUTLERY TITUSVILLE PA 2007" on the reverse. Shield reads, "UN-X-LD". At the base of the tube is written in ink."#23 Buffalo Horn Bronco Charlie 2007 100". 100 is engraved on the bolster. A sticker on the tube reads, " BRONCO CHARLIE The youngest rider of the Pony Express in July 1861, 11 year old Bronco Charlie mounted a riderless Pony Express horse , dashed out of Sacramento, on hie way to Placerville and hence, became the youngest rider of the Pony Express. He rode faithfully fot five months,until the operation shut down in November of the same year. At 81, he rode again from New York City to San Francisco on a seven month adventure to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Pony Express". Also affixed to the outside of the tube just under this recitation is an actual 4 cent United States Postage Stamp depicting a Pony Express rider superimposed on a map showing a route from Sacrqmento to St. Joseph.
