ADDITIONAL INFO:   This knife first appears in the 1980 Kershaw catalog. There were four knives of this style in different lengths and blade shapes that were called the Kershaw Hunters. In addition to the Caper there was the Catfish and Mallard, (#2210), a Bird and Trout knife that was 7 inches overall length. There were also two fixed blade skinning knives known as Lil’ Skinner I and Lil’ Skinner II. The Catfish and Mallard appears in the 1984 catalog, (the next catalog I have after the 1980 catalog), as well as the larger of the skinning knives. Apparently the Caper and the Lil’ Skinner I were discontinued some by time between 1980 and 1984. The Catfish and Mallard pattern, (#2210), was very popular in the 1980s and we sold a number of them in the cutlery store I managed. I don’t ever recall seeing the 2205 Caper in the store, but it is possible I may have seen one. This is the first one I have owned. Other ones I have seen to not have such good sheaths. The sheaths were well-made but the other two examples of this pattern I have seen seem to have been carried extensively and the sheaths were pretty beat up. Aside from a few remarks and a stain or two the sheath is in very nice condition. It is not often that I find a Kershaw from the 1980s that was as popular with people as this series seems to be, that are in such good shape. People seem to have loved their Kershaws and carried them and use them on a daily basis. I have one nylon Kershaw sheath that is pretty much worn through because I carried the knife almost daily for many years. When Kershaws were introduced in the 1980s they were in new exciting design and the AUS-8A steel was better than the 440 C people were used to at that time.
