Vintage MC-1 Paratrooper (or Pilot Survival) Knife

Vintage MC-1 Paratrooper (or Pilot Survival) Knife

Designated as the MC-1, this specialized folding knife was primarily produced for the U.S. military starting in the late 1950s and through the Vietnam War era.  Issued at times to Riggers, some Paratroopers and pilots (when we could get them). Orange jigged scales (made of a composite like Delrin),  for high visibility.

Main Blade is 3-inch stainless steel clip-point blade that has an automatic opening mechanism activated by a button on the handle.  It also has a shroud cutter - a hook-shaped tool used for cutting shroud lines if hung up in trees, etc. This one is made by Camillus Cutlery Company who produced the largest number, and other manufacturers were Schrade Walden and Logan/Smyth. Closed Length Approximately 4.25 inches and the open length is approximately 7.25 inches

The safety is a sliding safety switch to prevent accidental deployment of the automatic blade, but as a former trooper, I don't trust it.  Like most of these Knives, the spring is a little weak .  I would recommend the knife be kept in a static display.   It does not appear to have been sharpened, and is cosmetically great, with  just a few very minor scratches on the main blade.
