LF&C Barehead Jack - 1914-1930s - Landers, Frary and Clark - New Britain, CT

Made in America!

Since it's birth in New Britian, CT in 1862, Landers, Frary and Clark has been an American icon of classic blades, often recognized by their "Universal" TradeMark.  At one point, they even rose to be the highest selling cutler on earth. One of the most recognizable knife patterns in history is the "Knuckle Duster" trench knife, which saw combat action in both of the world wars. LF&C was a major contributor to the production of these knives for the Allied forces.

In 1914, pocket knives were added to LF&C's production line, which carried on until the 1930's, when many American cutlers saw a dramatic reduction in sales during the Great Depression. This resulted in countless knife makers closing their doors permanently. However, through their continued success in producing kitchen cutlery, the LF&C legacy survived for over 100 years, until it was finally bought out by General Electric in 1965.

This barehead jack was made between 1914 and the 1930's. It features a clip point main blade which measures in around 2.5". It shows light to moderate use and sharpening with some scratches and blemishes and a very slightly blunted tip. It has good snap on open, close and half stop. The secondary pen blade measures in at 2" and shows very little signs of use; but it does have discoloration at the spine, possibly from poor storage conditions. It has excellent snap on open, close and half stop. The scales appear to be synthetic, based on some shrinkage near the bolsters. (See pics) However they are free of any chips or cracks. The main blade sits a little low, which can sometimes make it a little difficult to access if you don't have nails. She's a well built, classic user with lots of life left.

**Note: I am new to knife collecting and selling. All descriptions are to the best of my knowledge and in an attempt to be as honest and forthright as possible in regards to knife condition. I have conducted hours upon hours of research on each individual knife that comes into my possession in an attempt to set a fair price. PLEASE feel free to contact me for more information on this or any other item in my store.
