Queen Cutlery #82 Hunting Knife - Brown Winterbottom Bone - 1980s
Made in America!
A Brief Queen Cutlery History:
As with all American blade manufacturers, Queen Cutlery has had an extensive and complicated history. The short story is that a handful of Schatt and Morgan employees left S&M and began making knives on their own in Titusville, PA circa 1918. They were very successful and produced knives in their original factory for nearly 100 years, using traditional methods and equipment. During that time, they acquired numerous companies and trademarks, including Robeson and, their former employer, Schatt and Morgan in 1933. Queen was bought by Servotronics in 1969 and then sold to the Daniels Family in 2012. Daniels Family Cutlery kept things running until 2018, when Queen shut it's doors for good.
It should be no surprise that this knife pattern first appeared in the Queen catalogs back in 1947. This model #82 was given the name of, you guessed it, "Hunting Knife". The model #82 Hunting Knife is exactly what you would want to take with you into the field. It's 4 1/4" stainless steel blade is sharp and durable. Big enough to get the job done, without being cumbersome. You get the dexterity you need without all the hand fatigue. It's beauty is just an added bonus. Featuring brown Winterbottom Bone scales which are free from any chips or cracks. It has brass pins and a brushed aluminum guard and pommel. There are some minor rub marks, dings and scratches on the guard and pommel. The blade appears to maintain it's factory edge; never being used, carried or sharpened. Zero wobble or play. Everything is nice and solid with this knife. There is no blade etch, but it proudly displays the "Q" tang stamp. This stamp indicates production between 1981-1990. Whether you want to use it, or admire it, you really can't go wrong with this knife.
Queen has always been held in high regard with collectors, noted for their high quality and tradition. Following the closure of their doors in 2018, there has been a renewed interest in collecting all lines of Queen Cutlery; including Robeson, and Schatt and Morgan. Grab your piece of American knife history before they're all gone!
