Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Betts could have been seriously hurt by this. Yankee fans show their classlessness yet again. Imagine if a Dodger fan had done this to Judge - they’d be screaming for blood!
Dodger fans don't worry about interfering with play on the field, they just beat opposing fans to the point of being disabled, out in the parking lot.
It was an idiotic move last night in NY, but I think all fan bases have their bad eggs. The St Louis Cardinals are the self annointed "best fans in baseball". I once saw a Cardinal fan get into it with a couple of Cub fans after a game, he grabbed a tire iron from his car and proceeded to chase them thru the parking lot. Lucky for them, they ran faster than him.
I once had a goal of attending games in all MLB parks, but got stalled at 19. I have seen plenty of stupidity in various venues, and it hasn't been just recent events. I am now more than content to watch sports from the comfort of my living room.

There are bad eggs everywhere, believe me, I work at the Courthouse. But it's all about how bad behavior is handled. Left unchecked, it won't be "mostly peaceful."

Every fan base has their share of idiots. Not many fan bases would condone their actions, and call them “heroes” though.

When I traveled a lot for business I saw games in a number of MLB stadiums, including all of them in California and several in the Midwest. Most of the time I was a casual observer with no allegiance to either team.

A few times I managed to attend as a Rangers fan (Rangers were playing the local team) wearing some type of Rangers apparel. I was treated very hospitably in Saint Louis, Kansas City, and Phoenix. Pretty much indifferently tolerated in both Chicago (White Sox) and Cleveland. And treated very rudely in San Francisco, and again a couple of years later in Scottsdale when I attended a Rangers/Giants spring training game. I’m sure those experiences were a function of the fans I happened to casually encounter on the way to and from my seat, and the fans seated near me.

Except in Scottsdale where a Giants fan went out of his way to come to my seat before the game, (it was an aisle seat and I have no idea where his seat was aside from it wasn’t nearby). He removed his Giants cap and stuck it in my face, and loudly told me how much better the Giants were than the Rangers. Both me and the guys with me (not fans of either team) were shocked. I tried to ignore him and said nothing. None of the other Giants fans seated nearby said anything - no apologies for the guy’s rude behavior. Worst experience I’ve ever had at a game of any type. We stayed until the 7th inning when all the starters for both teams had been pulled. He was right, at least for that game - the Giants won. :lol:

I already miss baseball but that was quite a game I just watched - congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers and their comeback win in game 5 - most entertaining ::handshake:: Yankee fans once again showed their classlessness by booing the trophy presentations - so sad.

lol @ Ike - probably relocated Yankee fans or at the very least have some Bronx DNA - I’m somewhat tainted in that if yon’ve grown up in Connecticut like I did you either love the Red Sox and hate the Yankees or visa-versa - I was a Mets fan but I always swam against the current my whole life but my family and my wife’s family were Red Sox fans.

:lol: :lol: I could detect that! The Northeast is quite unique as far as baseball fans/long running rivalries, what with the close proximity of a number of teams. There is a transplanted Long Islander in my area who is a Mets fan, and absolutely detests the Phillies.

I understand those type of fans being raised in a Red Sox Nation family but my maternal grandfather taught me the joy of celebrating the game first and your team second which left little room for hating any opponents - but I get it.

I once drove home from Shea to New Britain CT after my grandfather had finished a fifth of Canadian whiskey at the game. I was 14 and had the seat of his Chrysler Imperial as far forward as I could - my 12 year old brother was in the back seat navigating - we got home around 2am and my grandmother beat us all with wooden spoons. Good times ::facepalm::

my wife and I met in our mid-30’s and took our time dating. When the time came to meet Cathy’s dad, he was in the hospital on the planned date but still wanted to meet. Laying in his hospital bed, he extended his hand and said, “Are you a Red Sox or Yankees fan”. While still shaking his hand I said “Red Sox sir” to which he replied “welcome to the family”. Years later when he was living at my home under hospice care he told me he was prepared to shun me if I answered any other way. (Miss you dad)

True story.

::rotflol:: ::clapping:: Great stories!
I doubt that most 17 or 18 years old today, could successfully maneuver a Chrysler Imperial in city traffic, let alone a 14 year old.....and the dreaded wooden spoon was your "reward".

I think the Dodgers just let the Yankees win game 4 at home so the Yankees could preserve their self-esteem. :wink:

It almost seemed like Yankees' management was doing everything wrong just to see what would happen. I lost interest after Game 2.

Most baseball fans would agree Corey Seager is among the very best players in the game today. And most have forgotten how good Josh Hamilton was in his brief career. Such a waste. Here is a comparison of career stats at the same point in their careers (note Seager is still active). Hamilton retired with a lifetime BA of.290 and 5 All-Star games.

He was a unique and entertaining character, and a great ambassador for baseball. RIP Bob.

On a happier note, it's less than a month til spring training! ::tu::

Woo Hoo!!! ::ds::

Cubs have been trading their brains out. It will be interesting to see what the team looks like when the season starts. And especially after they have played regular season games for a couple of months.

One guy you won't be seeing in a Cubs uniform is Sasaki, all but 3 teams have been crossed off his potential signing list, and the Cubs are on the outside looking in. I think that if he signs with the Dodgers, I am going to have a hard time watching baseball this year.
