Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Baseball is a funny game. Great article in “The Athletic” today by Jason Stark. Seems MLB’s suspended game rule may allow MLB player Danny Jansen to play for both the Blue Jays and the Red Sox in the same game. See this for details about how it could (and probably will) happen. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/570516 ... e-catcher/.

Will Ferrell did a special a few years ago, and he played every position on 10 teams during Spring Training.

I thought it was a clever idea, and entertaining.

Nobody in baseball ever got more out of their talent than he did.
Betting on baseball rap seems kinda hypocritical given Bally Sports has been their major sponsor .

His disposition left something to be desired.

This playoffs have been very entertaining, although I found it hard to root for anyone in most of the matchups. The only teams I didn't mind were playing each other , Cleveland and Detroit.

It’s a sad day when I’m reduced to pulling for the Dodgers. But that’s what it has come to. After KC and Cleveland were eliminated I wasn’t sure who to cheer for in this year’s World Series, until last night when Freeman hit that walk-off home run. Only when I felt relieved did I realize how much I want the damnYankees to lose.

I just hope Ohtani doesn’t end up the being MVP.

I was a Dodger fan when I was a tad so I have no problem pulling for them. Hate the Yankees!! One more win will put this series in the history books.

Pitchers throw harder and don't last.

What happened to Judge? He must get the yips. I'm not a fan of the best teams money can buy. I'll sure miss baseball though when the series ends.

I wish they televised the Winter and Fall leagues.

Hate 'em if you wish, but the New York Yankees ARE baseball, as well as being an iconic world wide symbol of American might. The organization represents the sport better than any, from the classic ballpark to the pinstriped uniforms and their appearance policy. They look like ballplayers should look, not like a bunch of cavemen...ala Philadelphia Phillies. The Steinbrenner family took ownership in the 70's and restored the luster to the franchise. They built it into the valuable team that it is today, making themselves wealthy in the process. Dodgers ownership was already filthy rich before buying the team as a hobby. Yes, Steinbrenner threw big money at players, but also restored their farm system. The Yankees roster contains more homegrown players than does the Dodgers. One can travel the world and see Yankees hats worn by locals.

I agree, Ike. If big market teams don't spend money on players, then it goes to lining the owner's pocket. And they pay a penalty that goes to smaller market teams, so they can pick up good players. When teams, like the Nats, have a fire sale and unload all the best players, why should I, as a fan, pay to see some mediocre guys make errors? It's not cheap going to a game, even if the tickets are free.

My dad loved baseball. I remember watching Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese on TV with him on Sunday afternoons as they commented on the games.
Dad played some semi pro baseball and had a lot of insight concerning the game. As admiring baseball heros, with Dad's help, I enjoyed watching Mickey Mantle and Roger Mariss on the Yankee teams back in the day. Being raised in the South and being a Yankee fan was not easy at times.
Looks like the Yankees will have to work hard to win this series.
By the way, what has happened to the Braves? :)

I also grew up with Dizzy Dean and Pee Wee Reese on the “game of the week” broadcasts. IIRC it was Saturday afternoons, not Sunday. Although I was never a Yankees fan, I was a fan of Mickey Mantle.

When I was a kid I had a couple of chances to see him play. One of my uncles, who lived in Redbank, NJ had box seats at Yankee Stadium. My family went to visit (he was married to my mother’s sister) and he took me with him to a game, Yankees versus Tigers. Ungrateful 10 year old that I was, I cheered for the Tigers (but also for Mantle). IIRC Norm Cash had a big day for the Tigers who won that game. I also saw Mantle and many of the game’s biggest stars play in the All Star game in Kansas City. I remember watching the pre-game warmup when Mantle, from his center field position, threw a strike to home plate on the fly. I was impressed! Funny what you remember from childhood. I also remember in that game NL shortstop Ernie Banks was the MVP. I think he hit two home runs.

Pitching still is king. The Dodgers have always been able to develop pitching.
Then they can also buy the best pitching. You probably should root for a major market team, because your best players will soon be playing for them.

Haha, very true. I stopped watching when the Tigers were eliminated. I will spend the next 7 months watching hockey. The NHL is on every night, the players are the finest in professional sports and easy to root for, and there is parity in the league.

Still waiting for the explanation why Aaron Judge, who hit just 19 home runs in 410 at bats his last year in AAA ball (2016), managed to hit 52 home runs the following year (his first year with the Yankees). ::shrug:: ::hmm::

Terrible. Shame on the Yankee fans for patting them on the their backs as they were escorted out. Shame on the “A for effort” over the PA system. Shame on Yankees twitter feed for supporting this trash.

Betts could have been seriously hurt by this. Yankee fans show their classlessness yet again. Imagine if a Dodger fan had done this to Judge - they’d be screaming for blood!
