Are There Any BASEBALL Fans On The Forum?

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

Recently read an article about Angel Hernandez saying what a nice guy he is, grew up dirt poor, worked his way up to his dream job of being a MLB umpire. Quoted several people saying what a great guy he is.

Which just shows that you can be a nice guy and still be incompetent at your job. ::sotb::

And his incompetence was richly rewarded.

Not sorry to see him go, the games hard enough without an umpire doing a poor job.

Attending our first Nats game of the season today, gorgeous weather for baseball.

I hated Angel Hernandez as an umpire, biased and inconsistent.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Nats this weekend. Young guys wanting to play ball. 💯

The "cup" holders are down low on the backs of the seats in front. 😉 Always even more fun if your team wins. ::nod::

That's true, Lyle, you have to know when to hold up too, don't get greedy.

I was fortunate to get to go with our youngest son to the Home Run Derby on Monday, and the MLB All-Star Game last night. It was a great experience seeing the best in the game, doing what they do best. It was a good, crisply played game. Also enjoyed getting to see All-Star Rangers Nolan Ryan, Fergie Jenkins, Pudge Rodriguez, and soon-to-be enshrined Adrian Beltre introduced and all gathered on the pitchers mound before the game.

Personally I think the Home Run Derby is more impressive on television. Television cameras provide a better view of the festivities and the home run blasts. In person it’s kinda cheesy, with a WWE vibe. JMO.

Best of all was getting to experience it with our son!

I never cared for any of the teams he managed, but was always a fan of his.
Back in his day I always hoped he would go to the Cubs.

Made a brief vacation road trip along with some friends, and was able to catch a couple of Rangers road games too.
Monday night at the game it was miserably hot, still and humid, but the Rangers won. Late Tuesday afternoon a brief rain storm cooled things off so it was a pleasant 85 degrees, but the Rangers lost. We had a great time anyway! (Well, my wife is still grumping about the Monday night heat!) ::doh::

My wife and I were in StL yesterday for a Dr appt. We had a late lunch at a little dive bar that, arguably, serves the best burgers in town. The Cards/Rangers game was showing, and I remarked to my wife that I was glad we weren't at the game with the heat/humidity. I think Monday night was probably worse though, there was a slight breeze yesterday.

Thanks! We grew to love Saint Louis during the four years our oldest son was in seminary there. Two of our grandchildren were born there. It’s a great baseball town with some of the most knowledgeable, and friendliest fans I’ve encountered anywhere. And a beautiful downtown stadium.

Saint Louis has great food too. This trip we made it to some of our favorite eateries including Mama’s, Zia’s, and the Missouri Baking Company (all “on The Hill”), Blues City Deli, and of course no trip to Saint Louis can be complete without a trip to Ted Drewes! ::tu:: There are several others there that will have to wait until our next trip. ::nod::
