That's a pretty cool half-track, John!
We used to see some half-tracks on down on the peninsula, they sat up a bit higher and had big ol' airplane tires on the front. Not much snow but lots of mud and water.

Some of y'all know my wife and I grew up down in central Florida, her family had some orange groves along with the ranch and eventually a custom kill meat business. It was never an issue to just go in the grove and pick oranges and lots of folks had citrus in their yards. We took that for granted, that fruit was just as common as water. Moving to the Panhandle it was a different story. In the last few years several small groves have been put in near us, trying to cope with the occasional freeze and developing a more cold hardy orange. All that to say, Miss joy came home from the store a while ago with several Navel oranges. They had a little tag on them like the apples she buys from time to time. This really makes me wonder:

Went to The National Museum of Transportation in Kirkwood, Mo. today. I have several pics of locomotives and autos that I will post in the respective threads, thought I would show this Gooney Bird here.

This would have been when everyone carried a pocket knife, and they had world fares back then. That would have taken some organizing with everything being transported by ship.

I took my wife for lunch at the golf club on King Island, one sunny day.
King Island is located in Bass Strait, half way between Australia and Tasmania.
First we drove two hours to Sydney, then took a flight from Sydney to Melbourne. (450 miles)
From Melbourne we flew out to King Island in a DC3. (about 150 miles)
Better still, I sat up front with the pilot wile landing at King Island... Ken

Ken, a good friend of mine bought a little holiday shack on King Island years ago, right on the beach. Has turned out to be a very good investment.

Back then our dollar was better then the US dollar, my income for a year was about $120 K.
After working on King Island, My home in Terrial cost $90 k, that too was a good investment

What sort of mine was it??

Scheelite is a calcium tungstate mineral with the chemical formula of CaWO₄.
It is an important ore used to make tungsten.
Two small bags (about the size of a cement bag) weigh one ton.
When found on a beach it looks like black sand, and called Rutile.

I worked half a mile under-ground and five miles under the sea-bed in Bass Strait.

Went to an estate sale last weekend. Picked a few old tools.

4 Nicholson and a Simonds file, all made in the USA, all in good shape. Along with a Proto gasket scraper, and a George Terry right angle drill attachment. I also picked up some burr bits and sanding drums for my drill press, a rawhide mallet, and a screw jack for my trailer. All for $15.

The drill attachment has been used in the aircraft industry since WW II. I think you can still get them.

That was a good deal! Lots of good usable stuff.
Good files are hard to find, most are junk from some where else.

Yeah, I would guess that the operator had some well developed upper arms and shoulders.

Small town Saturday night.

A little town (~600 population) near us had a shindig Saturday night. Didn’t advertise it, just word of mouth, because the band, Two Tons of Steel, is popular and they didn’t want the party overrun with strangers. Blocked off Main Street through town, put the band on a flat bed trailer at one end, brought in a couple of food trucks with street tacos and barbecue, keg of beer, and wine from a local winery. Enjoyed visiting with our friends and neighbors and the great weather. A great time was had by all!

About three hours in, the band’s lead singer remarked “This is great! I’ve only seen two cars go by all night!” (From his perch on the trailer he could see the other end of Main Street where they had it closed and a sheriff’s deputy directing passing vehicles to the detour).

Ken that is one of the huge attractions of small towns, being able to do that, and a great idea keeping a lid on it. Looks like everyone had a great time.

I'm in shock! I just heard that a tornado hit St. Mary, MO. yesterday and the antique mall I was just at on my recent trip was very badly damaged. I bought 5 knives from there two weeks ago. 77,000 sq ft with over 400 booths and 220 show cases....

Some local people who go all out on the yard decorations for Halloween. The skeletons are about 10 ft tall.
