Case Sharpening Steel

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Sharpening Steel

Post by OLDE CUTLER »

I wanted to ask if any of the Case collectors here on AAPK can ID this sharpening steel. It is about 4" log and is marked "Case XX USA". Is it new, is it old, was it sold as an accessory or did it come with a knife?

It’s older, I think from the 1960s/70s. Not sure how long they were available. They were sold as a stand-alone item, individually boxed. I have one in the box here somewhere. They may have been also sold with a knife. ::shrug::

Thanks for your help, Ken. It was in a box with a Case knife where I can see now it didn't belong.
