And yet as a Mets fan I'm still glad it was Bonilla and not Bonds.

Quintana (thumb) has surgery; return TBD
"On Thursday, the Cubs announced that left-hander José Quintana underwent a procedure that morning to repair a lacerated digital sensory nerve in his left thumb. The starter is expected to be able to resume a throwing program in approximately two weeks, when his status and timetable will be reassessed by the ballclub.
The Cubs noted that Quintana injured the thumb on his pitching hand while washing dishes at his home in Miami last Saturday. The cut required five stitches initially, then Quintana underwent microscopic surgery on Thursday morning to determine the extent of the injury. The timing makes it likely that Quintana will open the 60-game season on the injured list."

Here's the plan for the last two weeks of July. Not a whisper about where I might be able to see them on the T&V. What a hosed up mess. Oh well, they will be on the radio.

The Rangers announced they will be on the regular TV (Fox Sports Southwest and MLBTV) and their regular radio network. I'd expect the Cubs will be on their regular outlets also.jerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 11, 2020 10:56 pm Here's the plan for the last two weeks of July. Not likely. They started their own network this year and are still having problems coming to terms with some of the cable companies, such as but not limited to Comcast (my provider). I think had they known all this garbage was going to happen, they may have held off for another year. Maybe not.

Thanks Jerry. With the additional info I understand better now what you’re worried about. I may enjoy baseball on radio more than television anyway. But I grew up listening to games - the only ones I watched on television were the game of the week every Saturday, (Pee Wee Reece, Dizzy Dean, and Falstaff beerjerryd6818 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 3:07 am Not likely. Of course, you could always watch the Southsiders.

Could be. High school baseball season here would have been over by now including playoffs, but was cancelled entirely along with school, in March. There should have been summer leagues like American Legion ball but those were cancelled also.thankgod4rkids wrote: ↑Sun Jul 12, 2020 4:25 am Nobody kneeling in Northwest Iowa! We started in June and picked up the last half of the schedule. Playoffs now. No concessions, bleachers are limited. My youngest is a left fielder so we just sit out there in lawn chairs generally. One team did drop out of playoffs because of a Covid case. Umpires never touch the balls. Each team plays with their own balls and collects their own foul balls. Little different but making it work.

Just got emails from both the Rangers and the Cardinals announcing effective today they will begin live-streaming intra-squad games, with some of the teams’ regular broadcast announcers doing the games. Check your favorite MLB team’s web site for details.

Yeah, I got an email saying the Cubs inter-squad game will be televised tonight. On their private network of course. I may see if it's on the radio but an Inter-squad game? Maybe not.

Looks like the Jays are a go up here in the true north. Would love to watch, just no time to fit baseball in the schedule

Here, if you fellers could help me out... Can you post scores/highlights, would help a bb fan out

Looks like the Jays aren’t a go after all, at least not in Canada. Canadian federal government says they can’t play in Canada, so,they’re looking at options. Article I read says they’re looking at Buffalo NY and their Spring Training facility in Dunedin FL. Probably doesn’t make much difference to the Jays fans because they were only going to be able to catch the games on TV or radio anyway.WillyCamaro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 1:23 am Looks like the Jays are a go up here in the true north. The Rangers will open their new stadium next Friday with no fans in attendance.

Here’s an interesting perspective on it, and what the trend may be for new stadiums, but it’s speculation based on this stadium and the new Atlanta stadium, so who knows?

Watching the first exhibition game tonite I've seen, Phils vs Orioles.
Better than no baseball. Another reason this disease sucks, just a less important one.

Cubs & White Sox are on ESPN right now.
bottom of the 7th
Sox - 7
Cubs - 2
Really strange to not have anyone in the stands. Saw some White Sox players sitting in the stands. Practicing social distancing of course.

With no one in the stadiums, the "canned" fan noise that the broadcasters are using is the strangest thing ever. There is a basic background sound track, then if the home team hits a homer or makes a great defensive play, someone hits a button for cheers. If there is a close play or something controversial then someone hits a button for boos (or maybe booze).

Didn't hear any of that in the two Cubs vs White Sox games I watched. Just the normal play by play guys droning on and on and on.OLDE CUTLER wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 9:00 pm With no one in the stadiums, the "canned" fan noise that the broadcasters are using is the strangest thing ever. They’ve been using that canned fan noise and cheering sound effects Including organ music for the Rangers games. I read that the players requested it. Some that were quoted said playing in an empty stadium with no fan noise is spooky.
