The service station where I spent so much "quality time" had bell hoses which were guaranteed to ring as soon as I had my hands covered in grease. They didn't have those weights on the ends however, so from time to time I'd have to reposition them after they'd gotten moved about. As I recall they just had a plugged end but no wieghts.

I can remember the old "Bell Hose" that had to be repositioned from time to time.
I remember it well, like philco - it had a 5/16" bolt stuck in the end of it.
Fifty years later, you're now telling me about anchoring it to the Drive-way.

I don't know about the U.S.A. The old Petrol signs can sell from about $500 to $5000.
The Oil Bottles sell for $35 to over $1000 with-out the tin top.
I sold a new un-used oil bottle "tin top" from the 1950s and 1960s for over $600, about 4 years ago.

Back in those days, petrol was under $.50 a gallon. Today in Australia we pay A$7.28 a gallon ($US 6.77)

That used to happen to me so often that back when we had our house built (before the advent of the cordless phone) I had a phone jack installed within easy reaching distance of the throne in both bathrooms.

Yes, and if the hose was loose, a small hose clamp was used to keep it from coming off.

......o.k.,i owned one at one time and didn't know what it was. my dad ran a service station at one time and it was in a box of stuff in his shop!!.........mystery solved!!!.............. .....................

Here's a Hawk having a squirrel for lunch.

I took this picture from about fifteen ft. under at the base of the tree it was in.

Great pictures! Cutty, did you see the hawk actually catch the tree rat? We see an attempt maybe once or twice a week, by a hawk to tag a squirrel, so far the tree rats are ahead of the game.

When I was a kid, we had a radio station, WCKY, that was a 50,000w clear channel station and they broadcast nearly world-wide. One of the evening shows was the WCKY Jamboree, hosted by Wayne Raney, that played a mixture of Country and Bluegrass music. This was my introduction to Bluegrass, and they would play a lot of Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs. One of their sponsers was "Red Top Baby Chicks". Before I was drafted in 1965 the Jamboree was cancelled and the station power was reduced considerably. In 1967 I was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX and was scanning the dial on the AM side and lo and behold, I heard ol' Wayne still hawking the Red Top Baby Chicks, but now he was broadcasting from Del Rio, TX on a station that was probably in excess of 50,000w. From what I understand, the station was in Texas, but the transmitter was in Mexico, so no FCC regs. Just a bit of my life trivia.

No, just saw him fly over and land in the tree totin' the tree rat in his talons

This one was out back of the house. I do see red tails trying to catch tree rats up at the lake on a regular basis. You can hear the tree rats start chattering and soon there after see the hawk over head angling it'self to bust him a rat.

After I got out in 1966 and went to work for NCR, in January of 1967 I went on down to Dayton Ohio for nine months of school. WCKY was one of our favorite radio stations and as I remember it was playing R&R by that time. In the morning, they had the Chicken Man skits on (He's everywhere. He's everywhere.)

The other station you are talking about was XERF Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila Mexico which was across the Rio Grand River from Del Rio Texas. In 1961-1962 we would catch it late at night when Wolf Man Jack was on.

Carmillus: Perhaps this is widely known, but I just recently discovered that WGN of Chicago stands for World's Greatest Newspaper which was the slogan of the Chicago Tribune, both owned by the same fellow-McCormick. (sp?)

At one time we had a nice, large Channel Master (Great Radios!).
I took it to college at Jacksonville State in 1966.
We listened to WLS Chicago and loved Chicken Man, The Greatest Crime fighter The World Has Ever Known.
