Old Italian knife
Busted spring and bent back lock. Not sure if it’s worth fixing or not?

Re: Old Italian knife
Maybe if you open the knife up to vertical and push the lock over the blade pin, and then put a million rubber bands around it for a month itll fix it

Yes like that but try and have the blade standing upright
You have the idea though. I'm pretty handy around knives and repairing them

Re: Old Italian knife
rubber bands are not going to work
the knife will have to be dis-assembled so you can bend backspring to original shape, you only need to remove 1 pin (bottom bolster) then you can swing back spring around so you can bend it back to shape. kick spring will be the hardest , you will have to cut one shape it then spring temper it then hope it works without breaking after 1000 times opening and closing . the knife will be great once restored to original function.

Thanks. I’ll revisit this tomorrow and try a new method.Folgore1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 22, 2025 1:23 am rubber bands are not going to workthe knife will have to be dis-assembled so you can bend backspring to original shape, you only need to remove 1 pin (bottom bolster) then you can swing back spring around so you can bend it back to shape. kick spring will be the hardest , you will have to cut one shape it then spring temper it then hope it works without breaking after 1000 times opening and closing . the knife will be great once restored to original function.

Re: Old Italian knife
It's very possible the backspring is broken at the backspring pin. Some are ground very thin on the inside, and breaks are hard to see.

Ooo. That stinks. I should just toss it then. It sounds bad. I might try prying the blade open this weekend with some pliers and a screw driver before I toss it just for curiosities sake.Bill DeShivs wrote: ↑Sat Nov 22, 2025 4:36 am It's very possible the backspring is broken at the backspring pin. Re: Old Italian knife
Thanks pal. I think that helped. I had a spark go off just to take some pictures I added a little wire around it to hold it in place. Now what to do next?Pile Driver wrote: ↑Fri Nov 21, 2025 11:40 pm Maybe if you open the knife up to vertical and push the lock over the blade pin, and then put a million rubber bands around it for a month itll fix it

How’s this? I added the wire just for the pictures to hold it straight.Folgore1 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 22, 2025 1:23 am rubber bands are not going to workthe knife will have to be dis-assembled so you can bend backspring to original shape, you only need to remove 1 pin (bottom bolster) then you can swing back spring around so you can bend it back to shape. kick spring will be the hardest , you will have to cut one shape it then spring temper it then hope it works without breaking after 1000 times opening and closing . the knife will be great once restored to original function.

Re: Old Italian knife
Is there a stamp mark on the blade ?
Some people collect certain tang stamps on Italian stiletto knives, that alone can weigh up if it’s worth fixing.

it will have to be dis-assembled to fix it , really no other way
