Late Night Lodge

If you can think of something to talk about that is not related to knives, discuss it here.

I ask the virgin mother for help. Then say Hail Marys over and over until I fall asleep. It’s the only thing that works for me. But it works every time.

I do wonder sometimes if she keeps me awake to get me to pray. Lol.

Thanks! I’ll give it a try tonight.

No problem. I hope She helps you too.

I quit drinking when my youngest was born with serious heath issues then spent a month in a comma. My wife spent the entire month with him at the hospital. I was home with my other 2 young children, going through the physical withdrawals and trying to work. My inlaws helped us a lot.

He recovered and we worked through his other heath issues. (I call him Lucky). Then my Dad died. (I felt like Job)

Then I went back to school for my plumbing license. I was struggling with my sobriety, I was almost 50, working overtime, 3 small kids mortgage bills stress etc. I asked Mary for help and committed myself to say the Rosary ever day. On bad days I would realize at night that I hadn’t met my commitment that day. I would try to say the Rosary at night and would fall asleep. I felt guilty about it.

When I told my Mom about it. She laughed and told me that Mary understood and she was letting me fall asleep because she knew I needed it. And that the angels finished the Rosary for me.

I’m still sober, my kids are mostly all grown but still need my support. 2 are in college 1 in high school. I have my plumbing license, overtime and bills are still a part if my life. I still say the Rosary every day, and know how to fall asleep. I’m blessed far beyond anything I deserve.

I too believe in the power of prayer. It’s a shame that the schools, and society as a whole are getting away from faith. In my opinion it’s the main reason why we have so many problems in today’s world. Crime, homelessness, delinquency, drug addiction etc. People are also getting away from close knit families. All this is the work of the leftists and liberals in my opinion.
And everyone of these “progressive leftists” want everything we have……EXCEPT A JOB

I’ve had similar experiences, as your Christmas tree nightmare. You end up in a loop. The dream wakes you, then comes back as soon as you drift off. Its horrible. I remember mine was from counting sheep. They were eating the flowers and got out of my yard and I couldn’t corral them. I woke up all sweaty and stressed out. Lol.

That is why saying Hail Marys is different than other methods. I fully recognize the meditative nature of it. That is obviously a big part of it. But She brings peace and clears my mind and I sleep better.

The worst case scenario I’m awake all night praying for world peace. The world certainly needs prayers.

I’ve been taking ambien and 2 other night time Rx’s to fall asleep for about 20 years now, without them I don’t ever really get into a deep sleep. I have tried a lot of things over the years to help me sleep. One thing I tried in the past year seems to really help to fall asleep. Focus your mind on colors. I imagine a car and then imagine it with different colors of paint. I’ve tried Christmas trees, a white tree and then I imagine red bulbs, then blue, then green, etc. For some reason focusing on colors seems to get me to sleep. It’s easy to get distracted and let your mind wander, but keep it focused on the colors only. Just something that works for me and who knows it might work for you too. Hope you can get some sleep. If this continues, you should discuss this with your doctor, our bodies can’t function without sleep for long.
I used the Christmas tree thing to try to fall asleep - it worked! Guess what I dreamt about??? A Christmas tree that I'd left up all year round and it was full of dust rabbits and looking awful and I was sooooo ashamed! I didn't do that ever in real life BTW, so this was sort of a nightmare?
Sorry about the nightmare, but glad it worked for you. There is something about tapping into that part of the brain that lets us imagine color that seems to help with sleep. Really anything we can imagine works. Cars, knives, airplanes, crayons, I’ve used them all. I like the Christmas trees because that evokes some nostalgia in me.
I’ve fallen asleep praying many times. I have mixed feelings about that. Prayer is important and shouldn’t become a left over for me at the end of the day. But calling out to the Lord at all times is a good thing so we shouldn’t feel badly about it. But prayer should be something we take seriously and devote some other time to during the day. I know why prayer puts us to sleep, it’s the same reason we feel sleepy in church. The flesh always wars against the spirit. When we devote ourselves to prayer or Christian growth our flesh complains and wants some kind of physical stimulation. When it doesn’t get it, then it turns us off and makes us want to sleep. The flesh is always at war with the spirit.

What a difference a week makes.

Just eight days ago, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, speaking at The Atlantic Festival, rattled off a long list of positive developments in the Middle East, developments that were allowing the Biden administration to focus on other regions and other problems. A truce was holding in Yemen. Iranian attacks against U.S. forces had stopped. America’s presence in Iraq was “stable.” The good news crescendoed with this statement:

“The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.”

It might make it up to 70° here by Friday, then the bottom falls out again, which is fine with me.

Ah, back in the LNL. Been watching a Chiefs fan livecast, doing some work on my computer baseball team and then hitting the hay to prepare to clean and get things in my garage ready to move to the new house. Then, I have to work on getting the things in our loft packed and out. ::facepalm::
Looking forward to the new digs and atmosphere. Should be fun!

*whew* Had to remove the spider webs from the doors of the lodge here.

It's 11:10pm Missouri time and I am doing a lot of catching up on the AAPK site. Been since April when I was on last, so I am going thru some of my favorite subjects and categories to ogle pictures and be jealous! ::nod::
Also order free catalogs from Shepherd of the Hills, Gerber and KA-BAR. Earlier I was checking out SMKW and Cutlery Corner. It's been a knife marathon tonight. ::tu:: ::nod::

Hope more visitors stop by the lodge.
