Is this where Leatherman got their idea?

For the Leatherman multi-tool? What do you think. It seems like no new idea is really a new idea.

The story goes that the inventor, whose last name was Leatherman, was stranded by a broke-down
vehicle, and could not fix it with the Swiss Army Knife he had at the time.

how far off i sat and wondered
started humming a song from nineteen sixty two
aint it funny how the night moves

I've seen German fishing knives that folded up just like a Leatherman (complete with pliers in the same place)--way back in the '50s.

Plier knives go back to at least the early 1900's. In addition to the one pictured, there is also the PLI-R-NIF from around 1900.
These date to the late 1940s early 1950s. The 2 smaller ones are German and the larger French.
