Case xx USA 5299 1/2
Case xx USA 5299 1/2
This one’s for sale on eBay . Looks to me like it could have been a yellow composition and handles went bad and was replaced with Stag that doesn’t look like what case uses. The shield has big pins showing . Blades look like they been worn some and polished. The pattern number can’t be seen and I had tons of USAs and saw very few without pattern number not on the blade. Might have been ground off so couldn’t see the 3 for yellow handle. I been wrong before on some I think have been worked on but someone likes this knife to bid 189 on it.

I think you are totally correct. First of all, the rest of the blades look way too good for the tang stamp to just be "worn off". I have rehandled a lot of 3299"s in stag and when I do sell one, I clearly disclose that this was a 3299 with yellow synthetic handle scales that I have replaced with stag.

Rehandled, but it sure is a good looking knife.

Agree, rehandle in stag. Which is fine if represented as such. As pointed out, a USA era Case should have a pattern number. The fact that someone took the trouble to remove it makes it a counterfeit IMHO.

Common practice on celluloid Case knives without a pattern number. Get a tested one that the handle is stag or pearl and looks a little too good it might be. Harold

The rehandle and buffing is so obvious even I could sot it right off the bat. Removing the number is proff of an effort to defraud. Collector value is zero, but goodness, as a sucker for affordable stag it would be welcome in my pocket for the right price.
