Did case xx make knitting needles

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Ceramic honing rod? :? What kind of material is the green portion? Scribes and knitting needles are held closer to their point, not at the end where this tool's handle is. Also, it's common for honing rods to have a ring on the end of their handle which is a feature I do not remember any knitting needles or scribes having.

Looks like a small honing rod to me ... can't figure the green color, though.

It is a pocket sharpening steel. Case called it the "2-3 Mini Steel". They started offering it in about 1973-74.

I have one of those somewhere but it has a course, gray colored sharpening rod. It’s not ceramic (the “handle” end is shiny, probably chrome plated). Not sure what would cause that green color shown in the OP photo. Some kind of verdigris, maybe? ::shrug::

Occasionally one will pop up for sale on eBay.

I wonder if someone might have actually painted it for whatever reason.

If it's painted swabbing it with paint remover then cleaning it off a few times will make it a useful honing rod again. I suspect it will cast spells just as well without the paint.
