Case Bulldog question

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case Bulldog question

Post by PA Knives »

I have been gifted a CASE Bulldog. It's in the black box with no name on it. The knife does not have a pattern number on it. The blade has hand made on the back of the blade. I can't see a XX under the case name. I assume it's an early model but I wanted to ask here Any idea on value ?

I would say it’s the XX model, and the pattern is of course 5172. For some reason on the 1st models it is really hard to see part of the XX s. Sometimes if you look really close you may be able to see the very top of the XXs.

If the knife is a XX era a lot of knives with that stamping didn’t have pattern numbers stamped so that wouldn’t concern me. As far as no name on the box I sure don’t know. I suppose it could have disappeared through the years or perhaps never had a name on the box. Someone will knowledge on that will hopefully see this and comment.
