Sixty-five year old knife history

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Sixty-five year old knife history

Post by westfi1 »

I am very curious about a particular Case knife (please see the attached photos). My father gave me this knife when I was in the Boy Scouts around the age of twelve, which was sixty-five years ago in 1958. Accordingly, it is very special to me. It is nine inches overall with a 4 ¾ inch clip point blade and a 4 ¼ inch handle. The blade has a wide fuller on both sides. The handle is stacked leather washers with a brass guard and aluminum pommel. The knife and sheath are both in very good condition for their age. I would love to know what the original model name was, its description, and its approximate selling price. Does anyone have a PDF file of, or access to a Case catalog from this era ? Any help along these lines would be very much appreciated. Thanks so much for your time and attention to this matter . . .

Nice knife! I’m surprised no one has responded yet. My guess is the knife is a model 325-5, based on leather handle with fuller, and blade length of approximately 5 inches. (There is a 325-6 also, which is the same knife but has a longer blade). That’s pretty much the description as far as I know.

I’m no expert on Case fixed blades. Sorry I can’t help with your other questions.

Attached is a catalog page from Case's 1959 catalog that shows your knife.

Great Case from your youth! While I own the same knife with an inch longer blade mine was just an affordable whim in a pawn shop a few years ago. I notice the Case catalog calls their fullers blood grooves.
