Thoughts on platt brothers ELRED PA
E-Bay listing .should I be concerned about the remains of the Germany etching showing on the blade? Also this Northfield?

Unless you collect modern fantasy or fake knives run away quickly. Neither Platts or Northfield had any knives made in Germany.

Looks like maybe some of those knives Parker had made in Germany using names of old defunct U.S. cutleries. They were stamped ‘Germany” in easily removable ink.
Although they are sometimes referred to as “reproductions” many if not most patterns were not copies of original knives from the companies they purported to represent.

Re: Thoughts on platt brothers ELRED PA
Seems like some where I had read some information on the Parker German made knifes . The only Parker German platt knife I could find on AAPP. was stamped C platts and sons Gowanda NY inking on back of blade .Makes me curious on how many knifes he had German made using old knife companies tang stamps and patterns .If the knifes had a reasonable price tag I would buy the Northfield out of curiosity .thanks y’all for your response.

Parker had literally thousands of spurious knives made with defunct American knife companies stamped on them. Most are an easy tell to experienced collectors, but lots of people are still fooled by them. Most have the "Germany" buffed off so they are harder to distinguish. The one you show don't look like either a Platts nor a Northfield knife, the bolsters are too long.

This information is why I am here. I wouldn’t have even known to question this. And I certainly didn’t know what Parker did was even legal.

Who said it was legal? However most were no longer trademarked and therefore in the public domain, therefore not protected by trademark laws.

The posted knife was made by Olbertz for Parker, late 80's to 90's. He had a lot of those made in that pattern in various old tang marks and handle materials.

Your use of the word “spurious “ brings back fond memories of my high school debate club days .My debate partner who I might add was a lot brighter than II used the word to dumbfound our opponents who failed to have a dictionary for a reference point to her meaning .Gunsil wrote: ↑Tue Jan 23, 2024 1:25 am Parker had literally thousands of spurious knives made with defunct American knife companies stamped on them. 30 years ago I bought a Large Congress with Imitation Tortoise Shell Celluloid handle covers that bore a Marbles tang stamp and came in a Marbles box. Although a nice knife, it was a Parker German made knife and had nothing to do with Marbles but the tang stamp and box.
