Case folder set #1

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case folder set #1

Post by Gooseberryfoole »

So as I mentioned in my "Greetings" post I acquired two sets of Case folders in an archery gear trade. I am not a collector of knives (and I try, I really do try, to not collected Archery gear). I know that Case knives is a well known and loved brand. I am trying to get an idea of the value of this collection. This first set of knives is basically mint, not pocketed, have the boxes and warranty papers, and each box signed by a "Ray Moore" who I am told was or is a designer with the Case company. The signature is a real signature because you can see the ball point pin indentations in the script. The knives themselves have Ebony scales and the original factory grind. They are sharp...ask me how I know...

Probably $300 - $350. Maybe $400 to the right buyer. Signature and display case not worth much (doesn’t appear to be a Case display, looks generic). JMO. Check eBay advanced search for sold listings of similar sets. Probably won't find exactly the same set but I see nothing that would separate this from other similar sets.

So this is just a group of knives and not a particular “set” of any sort?

Probably not a set... I would guess these were bought individually and put in the display case.

Sure, the knives are nice, but it appears to be individual knives bought and put in a case. The display case looks just like the one I picked up from SMKW a few months ago. The value would be just the price of each knife. If you find a complete Case xx display you will pay a pretty good price for it. I have looked at several, but never pulled the trigger on the purchase.
