Schrade 25OT without lanyard hole?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

Schrade 25OT without lanyard hole?

Post by scotl »

In the last two days I have seen 2 different 25OT folding knives without lanyard holes drilled. This is the first time I have seen this. Are they just early or later iterations of the same knife?

Images of the blades and tang stamps could be helpful.

I don't know the answer. The earlier iteration was the 225 and 225H open-stock hunters. The 225 did not have a lanyard hole, except I have seen them with no hole in the cap bolster, but with the brass liner hole stamped out. Schrade was fond of mixing and matching stuff, but they pulled out all the stops in this regard in "end-of-days period of the summer of 2004, just before the bankruptcy sale. There may have been no-hole cap bolsters by the barrel full that got used at this time. The OT was really just a 225H with different covers. The knife in question is an oddity. It has a tang-stamp post-1972. They changed the stamps from "Walden" in 1973. They were listed until 1993.

This is great information and I thank you, sir. I went ahead and purchased the knife tonight so I'll be able to add some more and better pictures once it arrives.

I received the knife yesterday and you were absolutely correct. ::tu:: The bolsters are solid on both sides but the brass liners are indeed holed.
