Case xx USA 62079 1/2

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case xx USA 62079 1/2

Post by Potechop »

Wondered anyone has ever seen a USA sleeve board with bone handles ? About 30 years ago I bought a USA collection and there was one in it. I remember looking at a price guide for case knives and I saw that they didn’t make it in bone only pearl in USA and dotted knives. I thought I might have a rare one and I took it to a knife show and showed it to someone who had a massive amount of older case knives and he said he had seen them before and that it wasn’t rare. I have always wondered if there were more out there and if case did make some with bone and the USA stamp. I had a xx sleeve board 079 but didn’t know that was the last years they made it in bone. Sorry I don’t have any pictures of the knife but I remember it like yesterday. It was dead mint and not messed with. I traded it and some other case knifes for a custom made hunting knife. The newest case book I have now is the 2nd edition collecting case knifes. By Steve Pfeiffer and only saw pearl handle made during that time.

As far as I know, the 079 sleeveboard was never made in bone after the Tested era. Pattern 62079 1/2 was not shown in any Case factory price lists after 1942, at least in all of the prices lists that I have from the 40's through 60's.

I said I had a xx but not positive now. At one time I had a collection of every bone handle xx 1940- 1964 . Took me years to find them all. I new it was in a price guide I had and I am going to look Thur some old pictures to see if I see it. I bought a USA collection from a guy and the person he was selling it for supposedly he had worked for Case. One of the knives I think was a lunch box knife and the collection also had that 079 bone handle USA in it. Never thought anything about the knife till I saw they were discontinued and not made in the 60s. Like I said I took it to a show and was told there were more out there. He probably lied to me. Wish I would have kept it but traded it off a few years ago. I guess it could have been something that guy had put together since he worked for case. I know it had to come from the factory because I have owned to many USAs and everything was right. I guess it will always be a mystery unless someone would read this one day and still has the knife. I am not a expert and I know I don’t know near what you guys know about case knives . Hope I don’t sound crazy ::shrug::
