Why is my tang stamp different

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Why is my tang stamp different

Post by GA1dad »

First off,,, I am not thinking it is something rare,,, just wanting to understand the difference

I picked up a beater mini trapper at the flea market yesterday for a little of nothing. Went to confirm it's vintage and I noticed the tang stamp was different. I guess it's supposed to be a 2000 model, but it doesn't have the "lightning S" like all the 2000-2009 charts show. Also, the X's and dots come all the way out to the left and right edges of the lettering like the 2010-2019. All the 00-09 charts I can find show the X's and dots should be positioned well inside the edges of the lettering.

All info welcomed.

Stamp looks correct for a 2000 model. I believe they use the rounded "S" on CV knives and the lightning "S" for stainless. Location of the x's and dots looks normal to me as well when comparing to other 2000 model knives. You can google pics of 2000 model Case knives or look on eBay for comparisons.

It's a 2000. No lightning S because it's a CV blade, not stainless.
