Kent Knife Company

Post by srm65 »

My brother found this knife under the seat of a old car he has been restoring and ask me to get some information on it. It is a 1933 Chicago World Fair knife made by Kent, NY USA. Some kind of synthetic handles, stamped Chicago 1933 on one side and a Century of Progress on the other. I would appreciate any info I could get. Thanks

I am by no means an expert on anything pertaining to knives. But, these knives are not hard to find. I'm sure someone will stop by here and give you a more detailed answer. These were made and sold as souvenirs for the 1933 Chicago Worlds Fair/Exposition. As far as yours being made by Kent, I don't know if Kent was its own company or an offshoot of another knife company. Here are a few pictures of mine. NOT made by Kent, but by Camillus. ::shrug::

Kent was a brand name used by Camillus on knives they made for Woolworth stores. Using the search function here on AAPK will find lots of examples of different patterns.

Here is my Kent. You can just barely make out ‘Souvenir of Seattle’ on the scale, which I’m pretty sure are celluloid. I believe it’s 1930’s. I have to say, it’s a sharp little thing. I forgot to add the tape measure but it’s a keychain knife, perhaps two inches closed.
I do have a Chicago 1933 but it’s marked ‘Seneca’.

Here is my Kent. Two bladed jack knife. Closed a little over 3-3/8 inch. Tip bolster on one side - some sort of bail attachment on the other. Three brass liners (There is no hole in the middle liner for a bail). Black jigged composite handles. Bowtie KENT shield with one visible pin. CV clip and pen blades. Tang stamp is KENT NY CITY USA in three lines.

What brand name did W. T. Grant use on their knives?

When I saw the OP knife, "Grant" jumped into my head.

Evidently, wrongly.
