Case 1920 - 1940 Camp Scout Knife - need bail
Was sent this knife to restore. The gentleman thought it would be nice if the bail could be replaced.
Can I do that? How/where do I get a bail?

It’s a very simple removable bail .
Chuck up a 3/8” bolt in a vice and bend an old metal coat hanger in a U shape , then bend the ears with a pair of needle nose pliers .

Yep - that is a 640045R pattern, the bail was not pinned just inserted.ScoutKnives wrote:It’s a very simple removable bail .

Simply meaning , placing a 3/8” bolt in a vice so you can bend the bail material in a U shape .

Scott, that knife looks great. What did you do to clean it up so?
Hope you post a pic with the bail installed.

Sorry Tony, already sent to the customer.
Elbow grease and sand paper. Lots of "how to" threads in this section.

You know, I bet a piece of piano wire would hold it's shape better than a coat hanger. Just thinking out loud here. I have used that stuff to make springs.ScoutKnives wrote:It’s a very simple removable bail .
