Need help with this one

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Need help with this one

Post by Rolldic735 »

So my uncle recently passed and I got some of his case knives, and then realized how nice they are. I picked this one up yesterday. So from the tang and shield markings it’s an xx era but I cannot figure the handle out for the life of me! Is it a replacement, or does anyone have any information on it? Where could I get a genuine replacement handle if it isn’t?

Thank you all for the help!!

Hi and WELCOME to AAPK.

Your knife is a folding hunter, 65 pattern. Yes, it has been rehandled.

And yes you are correct, CASE XX era 1940-1964.

Your knife started out with either stag handles (5265 SAB) or bone handles (6265 SAB). Also could have been Pakkawood, made to simulate bone (also 6265 SAB).

I forgot to mention, if you want to have original handles put on, you could send the knife to Case, or you could contact one of the "knife mechanics" here on AAPK.

See my first post - look for the pattern number on the back tang of the main clip blade to find out what the original handles were (bone or stag).

Thank you! I’m probably gonna keep the handle for a while, it’s actually pretty nice for grip. I’m just shocked that the blade is still so sharp and nice for being that old!
