OH Hell NO

Post by Hukk »

I browse eBay and other sites for bargains to customize and what not. While browsing for deals in eBay I happened across these 5 inch long scales with a lot of charactor.

http://cgi.ebay.com/EB-218-Wooly-Mammot ... dZViewItem

These looked great until I saw the price tag  Take a look and you'll see why I said, "OH Hell NO!"

Something is fishy though, the seller is theresa28bass and has the email address of wdwrksltd@ivoryworksltd.net (also linked with Banyan Bay) which is the email of a now defunct (I believe) site that sold ivory of all types as well as Sambar Stag and other knife handle materials. I know because I bought some very nice mammoth ivory scales on sale, interior, not exterior and pure white, white as I've ever seen.
On the back of the set of scales is the name of a website, Banyan Bay, also an eBay store as well as an independent website. Some how these are all linked together.
On another site that sells a lot of mammoth Ivory, I believe these would go for a ballpark figure of $200.00 and a regular eBay auction, $90 to $130, depending on who is buying that day.

Mammoth Ivory

Post by Forensic Jim »

What the hey? She's got to be kidding! Fine Turnage on eBay, sells some great mammoth ivory, for @$90.00, for two slabs. I wouldn't even consider those scales the way they look.
RIP Johnnie Rotten

So far, so good...So What!!

onefossilhunter

Hi Jim,
I believe this guy is Charles Turange also. At least when I bought a great set of Tusk scales that are living on a Buck 110, the address for onefossilhunter was the same as Charles Turnage. I happened to buy a set of Mammoth Tooth scales from Charles Turnage and the set of Mammoth tusk scales from onefossilhunter that were white crackle during the same week. They came from the same address. The only thing I saw different was the tusk was not stabilized from onefossilhunter, but after 20,000 years they should be somewhat stable anyway after they have been out of the ground for a couple years.

That set of scales I posted blew me away as far as the price goes, I can see where a lot can be done, except get your money back at $400.00.   You'd have to get into the Art folding knives with special custom made Damascus to make a go of it and you would likely have to use 2 knives for that set of 5 inch scales, an off the wall size anyway. I think that these would sell for $150.00 from say Alpha knife, who I enjoy doing business with and they are great folks, really down to earth, great titanium resorce also, which I do need to make a purchase of that, come to think about it. ::dang::

This is Banyan Bay, but I wait for sales (rare) or a customer sees something he must have.

Most prices are a bit high, I can get just about everything cheaper somewhere else. When I have purchased here, quality was always quite high, sometimes even exceptional. BUT $400.00..............N0!!!!!!!
