Case xx questions

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Case xx questions

Post by 0078 »

1. Did case ever make boot leg slip joint if so is there a pattern number?

2. What were the case patterns on lobster pattern knives?

I'm thinking about buying some of these knives, having hard time finding info on them. Any replies much appreciated. Thank you.

Case made both leg knives and lobsters. The xx97 pattern is a leg knife, was made in Bradford and Tested eras. The ones I've seen had celluloid handles. There may be others. ::shrug::

There were several lobsters in Pearl or metal handles, as you would expect. Some of the patterns are the x3102, X3088, X3090, x3091, and x4081. I guess the 3105 Toledo Scale and the Fly Fisherman might also be lobsters of sorts. Again, there may be others.

Good hunting!

Great answer Ken!

I believe the other CASE Leg Knife was a longer single blade on the 98 pattern. I owned one of each pictured in the link below but I gifted to my sisters so they had one of my "Dad's knives". They love them. My response on the linked post is to another Ken here on the forum, not MumbleyPeg.

Going off memory only but I think there is also a 3 bladed 089 Lobster. I have if I recall correctly, a XX 088, 089 and 090, all in pearl handles XX era I have never posted. I will dig them out this weekend and get a pic to post here.
