Wow Gary - I would say that is quite a Bowie - beautiful! Your interpretation matches the one I have in my minds eye for the "proper" Bowie (if there could be such a thing). OH

::tu:: Gmusic, great looking bowie! and I know a little about what you went through to forge the blade. I too have forged a few, I use a lot of John Deere load shafts, they are 1 1/4 inch round stock. Ed Fowler says they are 5160 but I had another guy from Colorado custom knife show a few years ago say they are made of 52100. I spent a day in fowlers shop "learning from the masters", he is really knowledgeable and entertaining. I have a Little Giant trip hammer I use along with a hammer and anvil but my forge is a 2 burner Chili forge. It's a hard way to make a knife but rewarding in the end. Keep up the good work, fellow knifemaker, Terry

Thank you Old Hunter! I'm pretty pleased with the project the way it turned out. The sheath is OK, I should have used a darker stain. I came to that conclusion after seeing the knife in it, perhaps next time I'll figure that out before hand.......

Thank you Terry!

Ed is quite a guy, I learned a lot from him. I was there in the winter of 2009, when did you go? I recall the John Deere load shafts being mentioned, from older units I believe is where the 5160 comes in. My 50 pounder (LG) is down right now, I've been rebuilding it a little at a time. For now it's elbow grease and sweat! Thank you again for the compliments Terry.

Thank you Joe!

Thank you RR!

I'm kinda liking the knife myself............I have to make a new sheath for it, that's all there is to it. That one is a little to San Francisco looking........

GMusic, You have great taste in knives and sheaths, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt - I think stag handles display their qualities best in black leather sheaths. OH

gmusic, I was at Ed's shop in 2000 or 2001 I just lived over the hill from him at Moran, wy at the time. I went to a "hammer in" at Dave Banks shop in Riverton in 2004, he is quite a good Damascus maker, his shop is only a few miles from Ed Fowlers place. Ed wasn't there, I don't think they see eye to eye if you know what I mean. ::tu:: Terry Again good looking bowie!
