I think at some point in every knife makers career he/she considers making the famous "Bowie" knife. This is my attempt...........full story here:

Re: First Bowie...........
Wow Gary - I would say that is quite a Bowie - beautiful! Your interpretation matches the one I have in my minds eye for the "proper" Bowie (if there could be such a thing). OH

Re: First Bowie...........
Thank you Old Hunter! I'm pretty pleased with the project the way it turned out. The sheath is OK, I should have used a darker stain. I came to that conclusion after seeing the knife in it, perhaps next time I'll figure that out before hand.......

Thank you Terry!
Ed is quite a guy, I learned a lot from him. I was there in the winter of 2009, when did you go? I recall the John Deere load shafts being mentioned, from older units I believe is where the 5160 comes in. My 50 pounder (LG) is down right now, I've been rebuilding it a little at a time. For now it's elbow grease and sweat! Thank you again for the compliments Terry.

Thank you Joe!
Thank you RR!
I'm kinda liking the knife myself............I have to make a new sheath for it, that's all there is to it. That one is a little to San Francisco looking........

Re: First Bowie...........
GMusic, You have great taste in knives and sheaths, so take my recommendation with a grain of salt - I think stag handles display their qualities best in black leather sheaths. OH

Here we go.............now I'm the right track!
Thanks Old Hunter for being right up front with your assessment. When I put the knife in that first sheath..........I said, oh my.........this won't work!

Re: First Bowie...........
gmusic, I was at Ed's shop in 2000 or 2001 I just lived over the hill from him at Moran, wy at the time. I went to a "hammer in" at Dave Banks shop in Riverton in 2004, he is quite a good Damascus maker, his shop is only a few miles from Ed Fowlers place. Ed wasn't there, I don't think they see eye to eye if you know what I mean.
Terry Again good looking bowie!
