An 8227 pen knife

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

An 8227 pen knife

Post by steve99f »

I found the above for sale in a classified on another board. With my limited resources I haven't been able to find it as a catalogue item with the MOP handles. I did buy it but haven't received yet, I have attached a couple of pics. No pic of the tang stamps but this isn't very old. Any help is appreciated.

Hey Steve,

I believe with some degree of certainty (from what I can see, which is little in those pics) that the knife in question is from the mid late 90s'. I have one somewhere that is the same version with the file blade.

I say 90's because I believe that is the first time CASE ever offered the 27 pattern in a pen configuration.
The 27 in previous eras/years was a 3 bladed Stockman or 2 bladed Jack only.

I see a 8227 listed in Pocket Trader. Says 1997' Genuine Pearl Collection 8227 SS. Could have been made a year or two prior or after that though.

Jerry:

Thanks for the help ::tu::

You are right the pics aren't very helpful. That can be fixed when in hand. It does look like the tang stamp might have the long tailed Case stamp from the mid to late 90's. I have Steve's Case book and the Price/Zalesky guide and couldn't find the MOP listed in either.

Appreciate your taking a look Jerry.

Try knifedb.net

The 8227 brings up 8 knives- 6 with Case shield, 2 without shield.

You have to register to use the website, but it is free. As far as I know, the

information presented seems to be accurate. It does not cover everything possible,

but no source is 100%
