CASE Tested PATTERN Number or Name?????

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

CASE Tested PATTERN Number or Name?????

Post by accujohn »

I found this recently... it is 3 3/8" closed. It is sort of a serpentine stock knife handle but with 3 separate springs, 1 for each blade and no center liner. The California clip main blade is centered opposite the spear and spey secondary blades. I'm just wondering what to call this... :) Nice knife by the way, super solid, tight with great snaps and no wobble. Also well cared for and hair popping sharp. Any input is welcome. thank you!

According to Jim Sargent's book, it is a 63038 3-backspring whittler (6th edition pg.221)___Dave

I don't have that book but I searched 63038 and found only 1 reference. An identical pattern sold years ago on ebay. Is there any other info on it? Thank you by the way!

That's a pretty rare pattern. Far as I know only made in Tested XX era, unless Case re-released it or did a limited edition recently. Nice find! ::tu::

I was in a friends antique shop and a lady brought it in while I was there. It was in a box with other misc antiques and 1 other pakistan knife. I knew the owner would buy it so I loitered around until he did. Then asked if he had any new knives :)

Sargent showed two pictures of that pattern, one old ratty one with worn blades and missing it's shield, and one mint one. They both are green bone and he values that knife in mint condition at $1500. The book and values listed are for 2004.____Dave
