Bib n tucker

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Sarge's 7th page 242 shows this pattern with no shield but with a Spear instead of a Sheepfoot.

Sure looks like old CASE green bone to me. Big crack on handle and "flea bite" (as the seller described it) on the blade for a mere $2750 BIN, what is not to like about that.

Funny, all this time, I never knew fleas ate metal. Who would have thought????

Damn glad I'm happy with newer stuff! Good luck on it Mr. Blister. OH

Every Case Tested 6288 that I have ever seen was made without a shield. That knife is fine. I believe that they made them with shields as well, but the no shield version is more common.

The reason that a lot of the 6288's don't have the shield is that the 6288 was made for the military in WWII. It was referred to as a "plumber's knife". There is an example on the board of WWII military knives that Case has in the Zippo/Case museum. Some of the military pocket knives will have shields, but most will not.
